My response to Theresa May’s Brexit deal on BBC Radio Sheffield
22 November 2018
Last Friday, I was interviewed by Toby Foster on BBC Radio Sheffield following the announcement of Theresa May’s Brexit deal with the EU. I explained that this is a botched deal that has been put together in order to appease the splits in the Tory party rather than getting a good deal for the country as a whole. I was also clear that for Labour, we will vote down this bad deal as it does not meet our 6 tests – namely that it protects our jobs, our economy and does not bring about a hard border between Northern Ireland and the Republic.
I also wanted to shed a light on how the Government’s shambolic handling of the negotiations – and the turbulent week we had in Westminster last week – is viewed by our European partners and allies. Whilst our politics is dominated by Brexit, the work of the EU carries on.
