MEPs back new proposals to stamp out unfair trading practices for farmers
26 October 2018
We are one step closer to stamping out unfair trading practices for farmers! It was great to see a majority of my fellow MEPs vote in favour of moving forward with a law to end unfair trading practices for farmers - whether here at home or in the global south. Late payments, sudden sales promotions or orders cancelled at the last minute can financially cripple farmers already working in very difficult conditions. This legislation has been a long time coming and will ensure that farmers in the EU and in the developing world don´t get a raw deal from supermarket retailers operating in the EU. And it’s something Fairtrade organisations are strongly supporting. Special thanks to my S&D colleague Paolo De Castro MEP for his hard work on this issue. Read more here.
