Labour MEPs: Monkeygate scandal shows we need tougher standards and sanctions

I’m sure we have all been shocked by the latest scandal in the automotive industry after it was revealed that major car manufacturers used monkeys and humans for emissions testing with their cars. It was revealed that in these tests - in a study funded by VW, BMW and Daimler - monkeys were forced to breathe diesel exhaust fumes from a VW Beetle for several hours in an attempt to prove they were not toxic. Labour MEPs warned that this again highlights the need for even tougher standards in the automotive industry and sanctions against offenders - and not Brexit-induced deregulation.
