Bangladesh after Rana Plaza: safety improvements yes, but trade unions rights under threat

When the Rana Plaza factory in Bangladesh collapsed four years ago this month, leaving 1129 dead and 2,500 injured, a spotlight was shone on the appalling working conditions of the people who make many of our clothes. Europe is Bangladesh's biggest market for textiles, so last week I joined a delegation of MEPs to Bangladesh to see what changes had been made since, and if the lessons learned could be translated to other countries which are developing their textile sector.

Yorkshire women raise £5300 for Syrian refugees

More than 200 women from all over Yorkshire joined Euro MP Linda McAvan at an International Women’s Day fundraising lunch at Wortley Hall Sheffield on Friday March 10th which raised £5300 for the International Rescue Committee.
